the Three Stages For
Breaking down those Prison Walls

stage 2 - doing the time

by Pastor J A Cormier

There is a major difference in doing time in a Juvenile Detention Center and surviving day-to-day in an adult prison environment.
Rehabilitation is not the first goal of the institution. It is a place to serve your time for your offence. You must obey all the rules of the institution.
A daily routine at most youth centers is: exercise, breakfast, some schooling, workshop, maybe a choice of some Arts and Crafts, or Religious Reflection. After lunch these and other activities will be offered until dinner time. After eating an inmate will have some down time or cleaning duties. All inmates are locked in their cells and at a certain time the lights are turned out.
This is called Easy Time, and the only similarity to doing Hard Time (prison) is that they both get to spend the night in a locked cell.
One other thing both youth and adult inmates face is violence, but to a different degree. The impacts of violence and the threat of violence on the quality of life in prison is a major concern.

Life in all but the most harden prisons, when access to God is present, an inmates mental and physical daily life is not only tolerable, it’s an escape to a place of peace where they can dream about the time when they will be set free.

Doing Your Time With God                                                               It has been proven in many studies that one the reason inmates become involved in religion is to improve their self-respect. At some point most inmates experience guilt, remorse, and pain as a result of their criminal history and background. Finding religion helps them feel good about themselves.

Helping inmates find Jesus                                                Matthew 25:37-40 New International Version (NIV) 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and not feed you, or thirsty and not give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and not invite you in, or needing clothes and not clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go not to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did nothing for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did nothing for me.’

Here is Daily Hope Prison Ministries Program

“No Inmate Will Ever Do Time Alone” Stage 2 – Doing The Time

By Dr. Aaron Kerr
Daily Hope Prison Ministries Program
Every person is made in the image of God. No life is beyond His reach.
The Daily Hope Prison Ministries was created to serve youth and adults who have been affected by crime and incarceration, and to help all lives and communities heal and restore after prison. This will be accomplished one transformed life at a time.
You may think that you are a lost cause by going to or being in prison, but God and DHPM believes that if you give your life to our Lord and Savior you will be transformed into the person that God meant to be.

Building Safer Communities
By using biblically based materials, The DHPM program will target criminal thinking and behavior, life skills, addictions, victim impact, and social change. When participants identify with these issues, they are on their way to controlling and taking responsibility for their actions.

With the help of mentors and supporters those who complete the program will have the opportunity to participate in resources and support programs offered in all communities upon release. Learn More

Day Programs and Events                                             DHPM plans to hold events in every prison yard and meeting area. Inmates will be introduced to Jesus in an atmosphere of entertainment and life-changing messages that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. This will give each individual a chance to accept Christ and take the next step of joining a faith community that will not only help them do their time, but also be there when they receive their freedom.

Note: The DHPM committee will be seeking inmate participation in all aspects of these events. Learn More

Women’s Ministry                                                           DHPM will strive to show women who are incarcerated that they are loved, accepted, and purpose in Christ that awaits them both inside prison and out.

Women in prison are often at the end of a long road, one that has made them feel hopeless, worthless, and rejected. Yes, they made wrong choices, but we
will be there in prison and on the outside to help them walk a new path – one that leads to restoration. Learn More
Life-Changing One-On-One Connection
The DHPM will use the Bible, The Passport Series workbook #12 “Breaking Down Those Prison Walls” and Workbook #1 “The Sixteen Stages Of Grief”, the novel “Shipwreck” and other resources, to connect inmate to inmate in a personal environment. Of course, DHPM’s management, staff and volunteers will be available for guidance and support. Learn More

Leadership Opportunities                                                                     For those inmates who want to seek a deeper understanding of the Scriptures that may lead to a pastoral position in prison and in communities upon release, DHPM has partnered with Daily Hope Church Brampton, Ontario. The senior pastor Dr. Aaron Kerr is licensed and qualified to ordain those who choose to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Learn More

Attention: Daily Hope Prison Ministries understands that one program alone can’t do everything. With this in mind, DHPM will partner with other programs to give each inmate the best opportunities to serve their time and when released, they can become an active and supportive member of the communities they choose to start their new life.
